About Al Leo

Community Service in Conifer

My wife, Linda and I moved to Conifer in 2019 enamored by the idea of living in the foothills and wanting to become part of the great little town of Conifer. At the time, we were unaware of the wildfire risk in the area and the inherent responsibilities that come with it.

As I became more aware of the wildfire risk in our community, I sought to educate and inform myself, my neighbors, and community members about how to work together to reduce our risk and improve the health of our forest.  In 2022, I joined the Conifer Wildland Division Community Ambassador Program and soon after was appointed by the Wildland Captains as one of two Coordinators for the Ambassador Program.  During my tenure, I have gained a solid understanding of the wildfire risk in our area and the vital role Elk Creek FPD plays in providing mitigation, suppression, and EMS services to protect our community. In addition, I'm a member of Fire Adapted Colorado (FACO), have completed the Coalitions & Collaboratives "Community Wildfire Mitigation Best Practices" N9073 course, and regularly pursue continuing education opportunities.

Supporting my community and the fire districts by volunteering with the Community Ambassador Program and collaborating with residents on wildfire preparedness has become my passion, and I view a seat on the board as a progression of my passion for serving this community.

Professional Career

I have over 34 years of experience managing complex business transactions, large project implementations, and significant budgets in the telecommunications infrastructure market. I bring strong interpersonal, communication, and matrix management skills that facilitate collaboration and successful outcomes.

In Summary

My ability to facilitate collaboration and successful outcomes in complex, changing environments will be the most significant asset I bring to the director role.

My three years with the Conifer Wildland Division Community Ambassador Program and regular attendance at the Elk Creek FPD Board meetings have deepened my understanding of the FPD, the demands being placed on it, and the risks and responsibilities of living in Conifer.

I am eager to use my skills and passion to contribute to the ECFPD Board of Directors for the benefit of the residents and the personnel of the Elk Creek Fire Protection District.
